What information to have ready
You do not need a professional survey or water quality report to start the conversation. Have ready: your pond or lake's approximate surface area (in acres, or rough dimensions in feet), a description of the sludge problem (odor, soft bottom, visual appearance, how deep it feels), and an honest answer about how often you can realistically commit to applying product during the warm season.
If you have any existing equipment like aeration or fountain systems, note that too. And if you have measured sludge depth with a pole or probe, that information is particularly useful for sizing the program accurately.
- Approximate surface area in acres or rough dimensions.
- Description of the problem: odor, soft bottom depth, dark water, worst areas.
- How often you can commit to applying product (biweekly, monthly).
- Any existing aeration or circulation equipment.
- Sludge depth measurements if you have them (helpful but not required).
What LakeTech provides with a MuckBiotics program
A program recommendation from LakeTech includes: how many bags or tablets you need for each application, a treatment schedule for the season (how often and when to apply), guidance on which zones to prioritize, and what to measure to track progress. This planning step is included with your purchase, there is no separate consulting fee.
LakeTech also provides ongoing support during the treatment season. If your initial applications do not seem to be producing expected results, or if conditions change (new debris input, water level changes), you can reach out for adjusted guidance. The goal is a successful treatment outcome, not just a product sale.
- Product quantities sized to your specific waterbody.
- Seasonal treatment schedule with application timing and frequency.
- Zone priority guidance, where to focus treatment first.
- Progress measurement guidance: what to track and how.
- Ongoing season support: adjustments as needed at no extra charge.
How ordering works
Contact LakeTech through the request form on this site or email greg@laketech.com. After a brief conversation about your pond situation, you will receive a program recommendation and pricing. Once you approve, product ships directly to you.
Store bags in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight until application day. The product has a shelf life of approximately one year in unopened bags. Do not store product where it will be exposed to extreme heat or moisture before use.

Recommendations for first-time buyers
If you are new to MuckBiotics, start with a single-season program. Order enough product for your recommended application schedule through the full warm season, do not buy just one bag to 'test' with a single application, because one application will not produce meaningful results.
Before the first application, measure sludge depth at 5-10 spots around your pond and record the numbers. At the end of the season, re-measure the same spots. This gives you objective before-and-after data to decide whether to continue and expand the program in the following season. Photos of the shoreline at the start and end of the season also help you see changes that are hard to notice gradually.
- Start with a full single-season program, not a single test bag.
- Measure and record sludge depth at 5-10 spots before the first application.
- Re-measure the same spots at end of season for objective comparison.
- Take before-and-after shoreline photos for visual reference.
- Use first-season data to decide whether and how to continue.
