The beneficial bacteria in MuckBiotics follow a clear activity curve tied to water temperature. Above 50°F (10°C), biological activity begins to be meaningful. Between 60°F and 85°F (15-30°C), conditions are ideal, bacterial metabolism is high and organic decomposition proceeds at its fastest rate. This warm-season window is where your treatment program does the bulk of its work.
Below 50°F (10°C), bacterial metabolism slows dramatically. The organisms are still alive but processing organic material at a fraction of their warm-water rate. Below 40°F (4°C), activity is essentially dormant. Applying product in water below 50°F wastes product because the bacteria cannot operate effectively.

This is not a standard treatment application: it is a biological investment at a lighter dosage (roughly half your normal application rate). Think of it as pre-loading the muck layer so your spring program hits the ground running instead of starting from zero.
